How it works

The NZ Hill Climb Series is a weekly Strava-based cycling challenge running simultaneously in Auckland, Cambridge, Taupō, and Wellington from 4 November to 8 December.

Each Stage (Strava segment) is open for racing for one week (Monday-Sunday).  Record your best time during the week and enter it by logging in to your account at torqevents.net/login

Multiple segment attempts are permitted.  Override your previously uploaded time by following the same login process.

Check your City and Stage pages at anytime to see real time changes to the Leaderboard as more riders upload their times through the days and weeks.

The algorithm will calculate your points automatically in real time.  (see SCORING below for details)

Week 5 is the ‘Finale’ stage.  Your local organizer may put on something social - keep an eye on the socials :)

During Week 5, each rider is permitted to redo one previous stage (or make a first attempt if it was skipped).

Only your top 4 stages are included in your overall points.

Solo attempts only: no slipstreaming or drafting of any kind.

No e-bikes - obviously.  Any other bikes are welcome!

Follow and tag us on Strava, Facebook, and Instagram.

Entry fee is $35 in Auckland, and free in all other cities.  Please consider making a donation

The Auckland entry fee supports the Finale 8am on 8 December, which includes live music, coffee truck, photographer (free downloads), spot prizes, and more.

SCORING

The scoring algorithm emphasizes fast times (not placings).  For each stage, the fastest male and female time will receive 100 points, and the average time will receive 50 points.  The lowest possible score is 1 point.  For example: in a race where the fastest time is 1:00 and the average finish time is 1:30: Finishing in 1:15 earns 75 points, 1:30 earns 50 points, 1:45 earns 25 points, and finish times of 2:00 or slower earn one point.

Only your best 4 stages  are included in your Total Points (so you have a chance to miss a week without penalty).

Once you enter your results, your points are automatically calculated based off of other riders times.  Your points will change during the series depending on other racers times.  Check the website at any time to see the current scoring.

Mens and womens points are calculated separately from each other.
