Open 25 Nov - 1 Dec
Old Porirua Road, as the name might suggest, is one of the original highways of Wellington. Built on an old Māori walking track it was widened to a full 6 feet in 1840. It’s not much wider today as it snakes its way up the north side of Ngaio Gorge. Dr Peter Meffan took the KOM in last years competition - seems like he was in a real hurry to write everyone a prescription for more hill repeats! Just imagine the consultation: "Take two climbs and call me in the morning. Side effects may include stronger legs, a sense of accomplishment, and an uncontrollable urge to brag at the coffee shop afterward." Olympian Sammie Maxwell dethroned Olympian Kate Mcilroy for the QOM in last year's competition showing this segment is hotter than a Paris hotel room. There are two similar segments on Strava - we're using this one as it's a little safer at the top and bottom regarding intersections.
